In the USA, when I was growing up in the 1960's, I read about Mahatma Ghandi and his non-violent ways as I was also learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I asked myself, "What does it mean to stand for something? What does it mean to live out your true purpose? How can we act wisely, do what is right and not compromise in a world that often suggests cutting corners?"
I also learned that when we go to Heaven, the angels will ask us only two questions: Did you find JOY and did you bring JOY! And, if we don't do either of these in life, we are simply taking up space and doing what others expect of us!
The esteemed Rabbi Hillel was famous for saying:
